A Single Drop of Gin

Two friends on the edge of a bad decision

Explicit. Two adults, one bad decision.

A single drop of gin fell from the rim of my glass to the polished wood, loud in the stillness. I followed its path, then let my gaze drift to Jack, who sat with his eyes fixed on some point beyond the bottles lined up behind the bar. His jaw worked slowly, a muscle in his cheek flexing with each swallow. We'd traveled together for years, but the last few months had seen a change in him — a new way of holding himself, a new intensity to his focus when our eyes met.

"So, Casey," he said, turning to me with a wry smile, "how's the world of advertising? Any scandals or celebrity endorsements to speak of?"

I raised an eyebrow, taking a sip of my drink before answering. "The usual. Convincing people they need things they never knew they wanted. Right now, I'm trying to make green cleaning sexy."

Jack's laugh was low and rough. "Sexy cleaning products? That's a new one."

I shrugged. "It's a challenge. Keeps me on my toes. What about you? How's the fight against big oil?"

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. His sleeves were rolled up, his forearms thick and strong. I felt a jolt of something at the sight, and looked away.

We fell silent again, each lost in our own thoughts. I stole glances at Jack, taking in the sharp lines of his face, the way his eyes seemed to bore into mine when they met. I wondered, for a moment, what it would be like to reach out and touch him — to run my fingers along the inside of his arm, to feel the warmth of his skin against mine.

The thought sent a shiver through me, and I pushed it away. This was Jack, my friend and colleague. The man who'd seen me at my worst and still managed to make me laugh. The last thing I needed was to complicate our relationship with unrequited desires.

Jack drained the last of his whiskey and set the glass down on the bar with a resounding thud. "Well, Casey, it looks like we'll be spending the night here. Might as well make the best of it."

I nodded, my heart racing at the thought of being alone with him in a hotel room. "Yeah, I guess that's our only option."

As we waited for the flight update, the tension between us grew. It was a physical thing, a presence that pushed and pulled us closer together even as we tried to maintain the façade of friendship. I could see it in the way Jack's eyes lingered on my lips, the way his fingers brushed against mine when he reached for his drink.

But neither of us was willing to take that first step, to cross the invisible line that separated friendship from something more. And so we sat, sipping our drinks and making small talk, while the unspoken desire simmered just beneath the surface.

I take a deep breath, cool air filling my lungs, as my gaze drifts around the crowded bar. Dim lighting casts long shadows, making the space feel intimate despite the throngs of people. I catch Jack's eye, and for a moment, we just look at each other. My heart beats a little faster.

I reach for my drink. "So, how's the case going?" I ask, trying to steer us back to safer waters.

Jack sighs, rubbing the back of his neck. "It's a nightmare. The opposing side is pulling every dirty trick in the book. I'm starting to think we're in over our heads."

I frown, sympathetic. "You'll win it, Jack. You're the best lawyer I know."

He gives me a wry smile. "Thanks for the vote of confidence, Case. But sometimes I wonder if it's all worth it. The long hours, the stress...I'm starting to feel like I'm losing myself in all of this."

I place a hand on his arm. "You're not alone, Jack. We all feel that way sometimes. Even me, and my job is supposed to be fun."

Jack looks at me, his eyes searching. "You're not happy with your job?"

I shrug, taking a sip of my drink. "It's...complicated. I love the creative side of it, but the politics and the pressure to constantly produce...sometimes I feel like I'm just a cog in a machine."

Jack nods thoughtfully. "I can understand that. But you're talented, Casey. You have a way with words that few people do. Don't sell yourself short."

I smile, feeling a warmth in my chest at his words. "Thanks, Jack. That means a lot coming from you."

We sit in silence for a moment, the only sound the clinking of glasses and the murmur of conversation around us. Then Jack speaks up again.

"Hey, Case? Can I ask you something?"

"Sure, what is it?"

"Do you ever feel like you're just going through the motions? Like you're waiting for something to happen, but you're not sure what it is?"

I look at him, my heart skipping a beat. How does he know exactly what I've been feeling?

"Yeah," I say finally, my voice barely above a whisper. "I do."

Jack's eyes lock onto mine, and for a moment, it feels like we're the only two people in the room. Then he reaches out, his fingers brushing against mine.

"I'm here for you, Case," he says, his voice low and husky. "Whatever you need, I'm here."

My skin prickles at his touch, at his words. It's like he's offering me something more than just friendship, something that could change everything between us forever.

I let my fingers brush Jack's as we stand at the bar, the cool glass a contrast to his warm skin. His eyes hold mine, a crease between his eyebrows. I can feel the air vibrate with unspoken things.

"Jack," I say, my voice low over the din of conversation. "What do you want from me?"

He leans in, his breath warm on my ear. "I want to be the one you turn to. The one you confide in." His eyes flicker to my mouth, then back to mine.

I feel my pulse jump, a flutter in my chest. I've always been the one who holds it together. But with Jack, I feel like I'm coming undone, thread by thread.

"I want that too," I admit, my voice barely above a whisper. "I want to rely on you. To know you'll be there."

Jack's eyes flash, and for a moment, I think he'll kiss me. But he pulls back, his face inches from mine.

"I'm scared, Case," he says, his voice low. "I'm scared of losing our friendship. Of ruining everything."

I feel a pang of fear, of uncertainty. What if we do ruin everything? But as I look at Jack, I see the same fear reflected back. And I know I'm not alone.

"I'm scared too," I admit, my voice barely above a whisper. "But I'm more scared of not trying. Of wondering what could have been."

Jack's eyes lock onto mine. The noise of the bar fades away, and all that's left is us, suspended.

Then, without a word, Jack reaches out and takes my hand, his fingers intertwining with mine. It's a simple gesture, but it speaks volumes.

I feel a spark run through me, a fire igniting deep within. I know there's no going back now. We've crossed a line.

As we sit there, hands entwined, the tension between us builds. I can feel Jack's eyes on me, burning with desire. And I know we're both hurtling towards a destination unknown.

I turn my hand over, and Jack's fingers intertwine with mine, warm and strong. He squeezes gently, and I look up at him. His eyes are dark, his pupils dilated. I swallow hard, my throat dry.

Without a word, Jack pulls me to my feet. The room spins around us as we move through the crowd. We find a door marked "Employees Only" and slip through it. The narrow corridor is cool and quiet, the only sound the hum of the ice machine. Jack pulls me close, his lips pressing against mine.

I wrap my arms around his waist, feeling the muscles tense beneath his shirt. His hands are everywhere, tracing the curve of my hips, the swell of my breasts. I arch into his touch, my nipples hardening against his chest.

We stumble down the corridor, desperate for a place to be alone. A door at the end opens onto a small storage room, shelves stacked with linens and cleaning supplies. Jack spins me around, pressing me against the wall. His mouth is hot on my skin, tracing the curve of my neck.

I gasp, my head spinning. Jack's hands are under my shirt, his fingers tracing the edge of my bra. I reach for his belt, fumbling with the buckle. He helps me, his erection springing free as I push his pants down.

His cock is hard and hot in my hand, the skin smooth. I stroke him, feeling him thicken in my palm. Jack groans, his mouth on my shoulder. His hands are under my skirt, pushing my panties aside. His fingers slide into me, and I cry out, the sound echoing off the walls.

We move together, our bodies pressed close. Jack's fingers move in and out of me, his thumb circling my clit. I'm wet and swollen, my body aching with need. I come hard, my legs trembling beneath me.

As I catch my breath, Jack pulls back, his eyes locked on mine. He lifts me up, and I wrap my legs around his waist. His cock presses against my entrance, and I feel a jolt of anticipation. He pushes into me, his hips flexing as he fills me.

We move together, our bodies locked in a rhythm of pleasure and pain. Jack's hands are on my hips, holding me close as he drives into me. I'm stretched tight around him, my body aching with each thrust.

As we move, the sounds of the hotel filter back in - the hum of the ice machine, the murmur of voices in the bar. I feel a pang of unease, the realization that we're not alone. But Jack's eyes are locked on mine, his face twisted with pleasure.

I come again, my body clenching around him. Jack follows, his hips jerking as he fills me. We stand there, locked together, as our breathing slows. The world outside comes back into focus - the cold wall at my back, the smell of cleaning products, the sound of the hotel bar.

As we pull apart, I feel a pang of loss, the realization that this moment is fleeting. We're not in a bubble, protected from the world. We have to go back out there, to face the consequences of what we've done. But for now, I just look at Jack, his eyes locked on mine. We've crossed a line, and there's no going back.

I push off the wall, my legs unsteady beneath me. Jack's arms wrap around my waist, holding me upright. Our chests heave in unison as we look at each other. My gaze drifts over the sharp lines of his face, the tension in his shoulders.

He takes my hand, his fingers slotting between mine. "Room," he says, his voice roughened.

I nod, my heart racing in my chest. We navigate the crowded bar, people turning to stare. I don't notice. I just want to be alone with Jack.

We step into the elevator, the doors closing behind us with a soft whoosh. Jack presses me against the wall, his mouth covering mine. I feel my lips part, my tongue tangling with his.

The doors open and we stumble out, our hands still clasped together. Jack pulls out his key card and we slip into his room.

As soon as the door closes, Jack turns to me. He unzips my dress, his hands sliding over my skin, tracing the curve of my hips. I feel my skin prickle with gooseflesh.

He pulls me close, his mouth tracing the line of my neck. I feel his cock pressing against me, hard and insistent. I reach down, my hand wrapping around him, feeling the heat of his skin.

He groans, his hips jerking. I feel a surge of power, my hand tightening around him.

He pulls back, his eyes locked on mine. "I want to fuck you," he says, his voice low. "I want to be inside you."

I nod, my heart racing. He pushes me onto the bed, his body covering mine.

He reaches down, his fingers sliding into me. I feel my muscles clench around him, my hips arching up.

He pulls back, his cock pressing against me. I feel him slide inside, filling me.

He starts to move, his hips pumping. I feel my body responding, my muscles clenching around him.

I wrap my legs around him, my heels digging into his ass. He groans, his hips jerking.

I feel my body climbing, my muscles tensing. Jack's mouth is on my neck, his teeth biting down.

I come, my body clenching around him. Jack follows, his hips jerking as he fills me.

We lie there, our bodies locked together. I feel my heart still racing, my body still trembling.

As we pull apart, I feel a pang of loss. But Jack's eyes are still locked on mine, his face twisted with pleasure.

I smile, feeling my lips curve up. "That was worth the wait," I say, my voice barely above a whisper.

Jack grins, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Definitely," he says, his voice low.

We lie there, our bodies tangled together. I feel my body relaxing, my muscles releasing their tension.

As I drift off to sleep, I know that nothing will ever be the same again. I've crossed a line, and there's no going back.

But as I look at Jack, his face peaceful in sleep, I know that I wouldn't go back even if I could. I'd choose this, every time.

I'd choose him.
